Have you ever heard of the tradition of the statue of St. Joseph and how it's used in the word of real estate? Not to get off on a religious path, but when my Mother told me of this tradition, I just had to know more. It seemed a bit crazy to me but I was intrigued at the same time. The more I researched this, the more interesting it became so I thought I'd share it with you. Those of you who are not superstitious, don't believe in traditions, are not interested in anything religious, or perhaps don't understand how the statue of St. Joseph might correspond with the real estate profession might still find this a fascinating journey. I know I did!

This story begins with the fairly recent sale of my parent's home. They put their lake home up on the market and waited and waited and waited. They had one potential buyer who seemed to be "stringing them along" and it didn't seem as though this particular transaction would come to pass. No other potential buyers were on the horizon.

One day my Mother was out shopping and she heard some people talking about the statue of St. Joseph and how they believed it helped them to sell their homes. Of course, being pretty much desperate to sell their home, Mom jumped on this and started asking questions. These strangers took her into the conversation and relayed their personal stories about having sold their homes, truly believing that a small plastic statue of St. Joseph helped them with their individual sales.

Mom brought this topic up with several of her own friends and relatives and everyone she spoke with couldn't believe she'd not heard of this before. Many of them relayed their own home selling tales in which they believed the burial of St. Joseph did seem to help them sell quickly.

Mom was hooked and went on a hunt for a small plastic statue of St. Joseph. Upon finding one, she buried it in their yard per the instructions she'd received from the shoppers at the store. It wasn't long before they had some truly interested parties looking at their home and my folks started to have some real hope. At that point, the potential buy who'd been stringing them along and more or less playing games with them came through with a valid acceptable offer. Things began moving very quickly and within a month they were happily moved into the first brand new home they'd ever owned in their lives.

You have to decide for yourself if you wish to pursue this tradition. I just buried our statue a few days ago. I can't tell you yet whether or not I'm a true believer. However, we came to the conclusion that "it can't hurt" and if nothing else, it sure was interesting reading.
